Disclaimer
The calculators on BuildCalc are for general information and planning only. They are not professional construction, engineering, electrical or safety advice, and they do not replace guidance from a licensed contractor or engineer who has seen your project.
1. Estimates, not quotes
Every calculator here applies a standard estimating method to the measurements you enter. Those methods describe how much material a surface, area or volume typically needs under stated assumptions — a nominal coverage rate, a standard bag yield, a typical waste allowance — and real materials rarely match them exactly. Coverage changes with surface texture and porosity, products differ between brands, and cutting waste depends on the layout of your job. A result may be noticeably off from what your project actually consumes.
2. Not a substitute for professional advice
Do not use these calculators as the sole basis for structural, electrical, plumbing, roofing or load-bearing work. Before starting a job that affects the structure or safety of a building, consult a licensed contractor, structural engineer, electrician or building inspector. Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of a number you calculated here.
3. Local codes and permits
Building codes, permit requirements, span tables and safety rules vary by country, region and municipality, and they change over time. The formulas here use widely accepted general methods; they do not check your local code. You are responsible for confirming that your plans, materials and methods comply with the regulations that apply where you are building.
4. No guarantees of results
Solar output, air-conditioning sizing, insulation performance and energy savings are illustrations, not promises. Real performance depends on your climate, orientation, shading, airtightness, equipment and usage, which may differ from the values assumed here. Always round material quantities up and allow a sensible margin for waste before you order.
5. Accuracy and updates
We try to use current, well-established estimating methods and we describe each one on its page. Even so, we cannot guarantee that any figure is accurate, complete or up to date. Use the results at your own risk.
6. Questions or corrections
